At our Honolulu plastic surgery practice, we often get asked about body contouring procedures. Body contouring is a general term that can refer to traditional surgical procedures such as liposuction and tummy tucks. There are however, nonsurgical body contouring procedures. These types of procedures use specialized equipment to create a controlled “injury” to small areas of fat. Such devises would include ultrasound and cold energy or cryolipolysis. These devices use methods to destroy fat cells without making any type of incision. Both procedures are often done as an outpatient treatment and are therefore convenient, efficient and more affordable than surgical methods of body contouring.
How do you know if nonsurgical body contouring is right for you? In Honolulu, clients often come to us asking about body contouring procedures when they are frustrated with pockets of fat that seem resistant to diet and exercise. Undesirable sections of stubborn fat deposits on the abdomen, flanks, back or thighs are easily treated with most body contouring procedures. Nonsurgical methods are a great option for those who want to enjoy the Honolulu beach life with a trimmer body without having to undergo surgery.
The pros of nonsurgical body contouring include:
· Effectiveness in diminishing stubborn areas of unwanted body fat
· Little to no downtime
· Less expensive than surgical body contouring procedures
· Minimal discomfort and no incision site and scar
Nothing is perfect though and there are some things about nonsurgical body contouring that are not so appealing. These can include: multiple treatment sessions in order to produce satisfactory results; although extremely rare, areas of the skin can be burned with ultrasound devices; temporary redness and numbness of the skin may occur. When considering nonsurgical body contouring, it is important to think about these pros and cons.
