If you’re looking for a liposuction specialist in Hawaii you can trust for a gorgeous, natural result, look no further. S. Larry Schlesinger, MD, FACS performed the first liposuction in Hawaii in 1983 and has performed more than 7,000 liposuctions since then.
Liposuction is an extremely popular cosmetic procedure that involves suctioning fat deposits in specific areas of the body. While it can provide results that suggest it is a weight loss surgery, it is actually a body contouring procedure that is designed to sculpt a patient into an aesthetically pleasing figure.
Benefits of Liposuction
The goal of liposuction is to sculpt, tone and add definition to certain parts of the body. Liposuction is used to remove the layer of fat beneath the superficial layer and reduces the number of fat cells in a specified area. Liposuction is the most common cosmetic procedure in the United States and results in an improved body contour and very little scarring.
Performed under general anesthesia, liposuction uses a narrow stainless steel tube to suction fat through a small incision. Liposuction is generally performed on the abdomen, chin, hops, buttocks, or upper arms. Other areas can also be improved with liposuction.
S. Larry Schlesinger, MD, FACS’s preferred liposuction technique involves a tumescent injection to decrease patient discomfort and bleeding, followed by skillful, manual suctioning of fat cells. According to a study performed by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 90 percent of surgeons perform traditional liposuction as opposed to the 10 percent that use various laser procedures.
S. Larry Schlesinger, MD, FACS prefers the traditional liposuction technique because laser liposuction techniques (SmartLipo, SlimLipo, etc.) provide no additional benefit to the patient and in many cases lead to bumpiness in the treated area. Additionally, some patient’s needs simply cannot be met by laser liposuction techniques.

During the liposuction procedure, small inconspicuous incisions are made. First, a sterile liquid solution is infused to reduce bleeding and trauma. Then a thin hollow tube is inserted through the small incisions to loosen excess fat. Finally, the dislodged fat is suctioned out of the body.
Once your procedure is completed, a compression garment or elastic bandages may cover the treated area. These are used to help control swelling and compress the skin to your new shape. Recovery times vary based on the number and location of areas involved in the procedures. Typically, a return to normal activities occurs in five to ten days.
It may take several weeks for the swelling to fully dissipate. As it does, you will see your new contours develop. As long as a health weight and lifestyle is maintained, the results of liposuction should remain.
I went to Dr. Schlesinger for a Mommy Makeover surgery package (Breast Augmentation, Lipo, and Tummy Tuck) and could not be any more satisfied with the results. Dr. Schlesinger and his staff are friendly, professional, and honest. Dr. Schlesinger provided an in depth pre op consultation that lead to the right decisions for surgeries specially tailored to my body type and desired outcome. After my two pregnancies, I had extra skin and stretch marks that could not be worked out regardless of my efforts; I was told by my primary care physician and obgyn that no amount of exercise would get rid of it. Dr. Schlesinger was able to give me a great body and I feel and look great. I can finally go to the beach in a bikini! I would definitely recommend him.
Ultrasound After Liposuction
S. Larry Schlesinger, MD, FACS has been doing ultrasound treatments after liposuction for over 20 years with great results. Ultrasound therapy is not the diagnostic kind where you find the baby in the uterus, but is the therapeutic kind that physical therapists use to get rid of sore muscles. Ultrasound therapy converts sound energy into heat which brings blood supply to areas that have been liposuctioned to help get rid of both swelling and bruising. By using ultrasound after liposuction, one is almost recovered after one month as opposed to a six month recovery time when ultrasound is not used. Ultrasound has a second benefit in that there are some free fat cells that have been knocked off their mooring, and the ultrasound helps sift them as a sifter would do for flour in your kitchen, therefore leveling out the cells and allowing a quicker, smoother result. Ultrasound therapy should be done for a minimum of four sessions and for certain difficult areas like the back and neck, you need eight sessions to get the optimum results.
