Chin Augmentation, also known as Chin Implants, is an increasingly popular procedure that improves the appearance and definition of a patient’s chin. The procedure is performed through a small incision located inside the mouth, decreasing the amount of outwardly visible scarring. Implants are made of silicone and are placed in such a way that there is no risk the implant will ever be out of position.
I researched chin implants for several months prior to my consultation with Dr. Schlesinger and spoke to several doctors who agreed I would be a good candidate for this procedure. Therefore, I was pretty set on getting this done. While speaking with him during the consultation, he explained the whole procedure thoroughly and answered all of my questions. The procedure itself took an hour. I never had any real “pain”, just swelling and tightness. I am now 2 1/2 weeks out and I already love the results even with some swelling still present. I would highly recommend Dr. Schlesinger for any procedure you have done. I have spoken to several other patients of his in the waiting room who also agreed he is the best plastic surgeon on the island.—Actual patient on RealSelf. Read more RealSelf patient reviews »
Chin Augmentation Benefits
A chin implant will generally have the purpose of increasing the definition of the jawline and establishing a natural proportion and contour to the face. Additionally, a chin implant will increase the projection of the chin to match that of the mid-face and forehead.
About Chin Augmentation
Chin Augmentation is generally a short procedure, lasting about 45 minutes unless combined with other facial surgery procedures. The silicone chin implants are inserted through incisions hidden inside the mouth. An incision may also be made at the base of the chin to alleviate pressure from the implant, depending on where the implant is located.
In most cases, local anesthesia is all that is necessary for chin augmentation but if combined with other procedures, general anesthesia may be required. The procedure will result in minor swelling, bruising, and discomfort that can persist for up to a couple weeks. A dissolvable suture will be used to close the incision within your mouth and should dissolve within a week. There is very little pain associated with chin augmentation so you will be able to return to your daily activities within a couple days.
