S. Larry Schlesinger, MD, FACS explains why sterile insertion of the implant through the Keller Funnel helps prevent capsular contracture (scar tissue which may cause the breasts to harden).
Video Transcript:
So when we open the implant, it gets passed sterilely from the implant box directly into the Keller Funnel and then the Keller Funnel is inserted here and so it never touches the skin. We also change our gloves before. So there’s no touch technique for putting in the implants so we decrease the chance of capsular contracture from non-pathogenic bacteria.
And again with the Keller Funnel we always have the circle on the bottom at the bottom. It went directly from a box into a sterile Keller Funnel and it goes directly into the pocket that’s already been created. And there we are. Beautiful. It looks great. She will love it.
