Having breast augmentation surgery is a big decision, but one that can ultimately change the way you feel about your entire body. The size of your new breasts is likely the biggest decision you will need to make during the process. There are a lot of initial steps to take before you get your breast implants. The more information you approach your doctor with, the more likely you will be to have the exact results you’re looking for. By planning ahead, and trying out several different sizes before you commit to implants, you can make sure that you’re going to be entirely comfortable with the result. You can’t use a “one size fits all” mentality. Just because a cup size looks attractive on a friend, that doesn’t guarantee it will work on you. Don’t pay attention to the volume of anyone’s implants except your own. There are unique factors, like precise original breast size, shape and skin thickness that will affect the size of every woman’s implants. Breast enhancement isn’t measure by cup size, so forget that too. You’ll be changing your body, so the only measurements you need to be concerned with are your own. The first step in determining your idea size is to try on bras. Choose full coverage, stiff cup bras for this, so that you can see how your profile and dimensions change with each size. Don’t put too much emphasis on cup size, just attempt to see how the overall shape changes your appearance. Once you’ve found a bra that best represents the size and shape you want, it’s time to fill it. Take a stocking, and fill it with rice or sand. Roll it, and place the long and wide shape (don’t make it rounded – it should fit under the breast) place it in the bra beneath your natural breast. Knead the shape until it looks as natural as possible. Adjust the amount of fill in the stocking until the stocking and your breast both fit comfortably. Next, see how you feel about this size. Wear the bra with the filler under a tight shirt at home, and then in public for a few days, and keep track of your feelings during the day. Did you enjoy your new body shape and profile? Did you feel you had too much attention? Were you comfortable in public? Once you find a size that gives you self esteem and confidence, measure the fill amount, and bring in both the bra and stocking to your doctor. Discuss this size with him, and explain exactly what you’re expecting from the surgery, and which attributes are most important to you. The more communication and self examination you have, the happier you will be with the result.
